Fake News are types of misleading news that are spreading all across social media. This is often associated with those ignorant people who opposes someone and want to bring them down. This people are most often those that are “well-mannered” people who are fanatics of someone instead of being a critique. Fake News is everywhere, but it is rampant here in the Philippines. Fake News is associated with social media platform especially Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This was most common during the Covid outbreak, people post and share any media related article on facebook without making sure if the article is reliable.
An example of this was during the election, people spread news on the internet about how the Philipppines was the richest country in Asia during the Marcos Regime but it never was, because the value of Philippine Peso when he sat as the president was at P3.91 and devalued to P20.46 when he was ousted from office, lost value by 423.46%. Another example of this was when the Marcos Family claimed that they were the ones responsible for the nutribun feeding program when it was supplied by the USAID (United States Agency for International Development). These people are fanatics of the Marcoses who wants to defend them because they know them as good people who didn’t do anything wrong during FEM’s Regime. This type of fake news was an advantage to then-presidential candidate and now-president Bongbong Marcos because people thought that he can do what his father did before.
The Philippines is suffering against fake news and other types of misinformation. Fake news can change the opinion of the public by scamming them into believing this types of information, this the most common type of scam during elections. This types of news can also give someone a bad name by posting things that are untrue about them. This will ruin their reputation and how other people see them. This type of misinformation can also change the perceptions of people about someone or something, anyone who is influential can do this because they can manipulate their fans into thinking that what they share is right because they are “influential”. But there are unsung heroes who still delivers real news all over the world despite everything that is happening.
